In a recent study of wrong-site surgery cases, the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) cited several factors contributing to medical errors: the involvement of multiple surgeons, performance of several different procedures during one surgery, and pressure from hospital administrators to finish the surgery quickly .
